Assessing Impact of Climate Variability in Southwest Coastal Bangladesh Using Livelihood Vulnerability Index

This study analyzed the variability of rainfall and temperature in southwest coastal Bangladesh assessed impact such on local livelihood last two decades. The analysis involved use coefficient variation (CV), standardized precipitation anomaly (Z), concentration index (PCI). Linear regression was conducted to assess trends, a Mann–Kendall test performed detect significance trends. climate by using vulnerability (LVI), which consisted six components with several sub-components under each component. Primary data construct LVIs were collected through semi-structed questionnaire survey 132 households polder. triangulated supplemented qualitative from focused group discussions key informant interviews. results showed significant rises Bangladesh. Though there no discernable trends annual seasonal rainfalls, anomalies increased dry season. PCI Z found capture better than currently used mean monthly standard deviation. comparison present decade past indicated that vulnerability, particularly water component, had polder due increases natural hazards variability. index-based this can be adapted for assessment deltaic areas Asia Africa.
